White Cedar Nature Center

Looking for a dose of retro bliss, nature style? Peninsula's White Cedar Nature Center is a funky little building jam-packed with taxidermy birds and mammals, nostalgic photos, and a huge stuffed black bear. Outside, look for the abandoned toboggan run, used back in the 1930s, as you walk the nearby White Cedar Nature Trail.

Hikes, campfires and nature crafts are offered most days in summer. Schedules are posted on park bulletin boards.

The nature center is on Bluff Road next to the wood yard in the middle of the park. It is open 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily, Memorial Day - Labor Day, and year-round as staffing permits.

Historic photos and the original carved bear that topped the Memorial Pole near Chief Kahquados' grave also grace the Nature Center. The Gift Store has souvenirs priced from 25 cents to $30. Items include Penisula postcards, centennial shirts, patches, hiking medallions, field guides nature toys and a new limited selection of music (Native American, Latino, lullaby and mainstream). All proceeds directly benefit Peninsula's education program.

The Nature Center features a 3-dimensional map, highlighting key park features.
