Volunteer Nature Center Hosts

Nature center hosts primarily serve as a nature center host during building hours: greeting visitors, answering questions and orienting visitors to the property. With approval of the property supervisor, hosts may be eligible for a free campsite during the duration of there service. As a representative of the Department of Natural Resources, a host:

  • Greets nature center visitors.
  • Hands out literature and program schedules.
  • Answers questions about the natural world, exhibits, property and local area.
  • Assists visitors with nature center gift shop purchases.
  • Assists with nature center operations, exhibit maintenance and minor cleaning.
  • Assists naturalists with programs and special events.
  • Is alert to visitor's needs, comments, complaints, etc.

Nature center hosts are selected based on interests and familiarity with the park system, customer service experience, interpretive experience and natural/cultural history knowledge of the surrounding area. If you're interested in becoming one, send a volunteer application to the park or forest where you'd like to work. The following properties may have nature center host positions:
