Fall 2009 Wild Turkey Season Dates
The 2009 Fall turkey hunting season will run from September 12 - November 19. (Please note that the fall season may be extended in 2009. Please check back for updates.) To hunt wild turkeys in Wisconsin a valid permit (carcass tag), fall turkey license, and Turkey Stamp are required. Permits are distributed using a preference drawing. To receive a permit to hunt wild turkeys in Wisconsin, you must apply by application. The application deadline for the fall 2009 season is August 1, 2009. Applications cost $3 and are available at any DNR Service Center, Licensing Agent, or by applying online. Successful applicants will be notified via mail by late-August and must then obtain their permit from any DNR Service Center or Licensing Agent. Reminder: Hunters are reminded that the number of turkey hunting zones has been reduced to seven large zones instead of the previous 46 zones structure. Please refer to the 2009 Fall Turkey Hunting Regulations and/or zone map links on the Wild Turkey website for the 7-Zone Consolidation Map. Turkey permits remaining after the initial drawing will go on sale beginning sometime in early September on a date to be determined. The permits will be available at any license sales location, over the phone, or online. The fee for leftover permits will be $10 for residents, and $15 for nonresidents. All hunters will also be required to pay the fall turkey license and stamp fee, unless they have previously purchased the license or stamp, or are a 2009 Conservation Patron license holder. Residents and nonresidents will have equal opportunity to purchase leftover permits. Purchasing these permits will not affect your preference status for future fall turkey permit drawings. Purchases are limited to one permit per day until each zone is sold out. Please note: Effective October 1, 2007, for the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Fall turkey hunting seasons only, hunters with a valid turkey permit and license may use dogs to hunt wild turkey IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES ONLY: Crawford, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, Sauk, Vernon, and Wood Counties.
