2010 Turkey Stamp Contest Winner Announced

2010 Turkey Stamp

A painting of a flying wild turkey set in a Wisconsin landscape created by Arthur G. Anderson of Onalaska is the winning entry of the 2010 Wisconsin Wild Turkey Stamp Design Contest.

Judging for the 2010 Wild Turkey Stamp design contest took place in Wisconsin Dells during the statewide convention of the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) on Jan. 23. The judges included a Wisconsin Chapter NWTF representative, a retired wildlife art teacher, and last year’s Wild Turkey Stamp Design Contest winner, Craig Fairbert.

A total of nine artists submitted artwork for the 2010 Wild Turkey Stamp Design Contest. The winner, Arthur G. Anderson, Onalaska, has been submitting entries for several of the state stamp contests for many years and is a 30-year veteran wildlife artist.

Anderson has also notably won the Federal Duck Stamp contest and several state stamp contests over the years. Anderson says he enjoys working from field observations, sketches, and camera work, and recognizes the strong contribution that the Wild Turkey Stamp and other state stamp programs have had in creating wildlife habitat.

This year’s first runner-up was Virgil A. Beck, Stevens Point, and the second runner-up was Robert R. Wilkens, Kiel.

Sales of the wild turkey stamp help provide future opportunities for turkey management and hunting in Wisconsin. All turkey hunters are required to purchase the $5.25 Turkey Stamp to legally hunt turkeys in Wisconsin. Sales of the Turkey Stamp bring in over $800,000 annually for habitat management and restoration projects, education, research, equipment, and for managing the wild turkey program in our state.
