Best Management PracticesTrapping Best Management Practices (BMPs) are documents that identify techniques and traps that address the welfare of trapped animals and allow for the efficient, selective, safe, and practical capture of furbearers. BMPs for trapping furbearers in the United States are needed to address animal welfare, efficiency, and safety in furbearer management programs. The BMPs are based on the most extensive research effort of animal traps ever conducted in the United States. Best Management Practices for Trapping Coyotes in the Eastern United States was written by the Furbearer Resources Technical Work Group of the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. It has been adapted for use in Wisconsin.
