Wisconsin Wildlife SurveysPrefaceAs indicated in the Wildlife Surveys Committee Report (May 1990), semi-annual survey reports will be distributed in August and April each year. The timing of some reports prohibits them from being distributed in this report. They are needed before they would be printed in this report or are needed in quantities that would prohibit printing. The survey committee, meeting on the 26th of September 1992, decided that duplication of these reports in the surveys report would be wasteful and unnecessary. Therefore the deer harvest, goose harvest, and spring breeding waterfowl reports will no longer be printed in this report but will be distributed later to all people who receive this report. Since workload, and report timing, precluded the compiling of the February report in a timely manner, the February report was permanently moved to April. The purpose of this compilation of survey reports is to get current survey information into the hands of the managers, researchers, administrators, and other DNR employees that need the information. These reports are not meant to be the definitive analysis of survey data for a given species. Rather, these reports provide the current year's survey data, a comparison to previous years' data, and enough interpretation to understand the results. Included in the reports are the names of the authors of individual survey reports. Please contact the appropriate author for additional clarification or further interpretation of survey results. This report is divided into surveys addressing 5 species groups (small game, big game, furbearers, waterfowl, and nongame). Individual survey reports can be found under 1 of these general categories. This arrangement of the survey reports should allow convenient reference to annual reports, yet allow individual survey reports to be photocopied for client requests. As always, we are looking for any comments on how we might improve the reports or make them more useful to you. If you have any comments on these reports or the reporting system, please contact Brian Dhuey, 2801 Progress Rd., Madison, WI 53716 at (608)221-6342. Thanks to all the personnel within the Department that collected the survey data and especially the authors from the bureaus of Wildlife Management, Endangered Resources, and Integrated Science Services that provided reports in a timely manner. Your efforts are essential to building a solid information base on which to make our management decisions. Brian Dhuey For extra copies of this report please write or call Brian Dhuey (608)221-6342.
