Mourning Dove

The mourning dove season started as a resolution from a Wisconsin citizen. The decision to go forward with a dove season occurred after first confirming the population could withstand a hunt and conducting extensive public input. The dove season was given a public hearing twice in every county in Wisconsin and at both the public voted in favor of a dove season. Additionally, there have been at least three meetings of the Natural Resources Board (NRB) where the public commented on the issue and the Department of Natural Resources also opened a public comment period on the issue that lasted several months. The department took into consideration the results of the public hearings and the other forms of public inputs and recommended the NRB to approve the dove season. The NRB voted in favor of the dove season and forwarded the proposal to the legislature. The legislature passed the proposed rule and a dove season was created.
