The 2007 Fall Hunting Season

Youth Waterfowl Hunt

Dates: September 15 - 16
Bag: Regular season bag limits apply except for Canada geese (see below)

Note: The youth waterfowl hunt straddles the early and the regular goose seasons. Thus, youth will have to possess an Early Goose Season permit if hunting on Sept 15th , and a regular season permit if hunting geese on the 16th in the Exterior, Horicon or Collins Zones **The daily bag for Canada geese on Sept 15 is the same as the early season (5 geese) and the daily bag on Sept 16 is the same as the regular season (2 geese, regardless of zone).

Ducks

Dates:

  • Northern Zone: September 22** – November 20;
  • Southern Zone: September 29** – October 7 and October 13 - December 2
Bag: Daily bag of six ducks, not to include more than four mallards of which only one may be a hen, two wood ducks, one black duck, two redheads, two scaup, one pintail (60 days), two canvasbacks (60 days). In addition, five mergansers to include not more than two hooded mergansers. Coot daily bag is 15

**Shooting hours begin at 9am on Sept 22 and Sept 29

Canada Geese

Dates:

  • Exterior Zone North: September 16 – December 9
  • Exterior Zone South: September 16 – October 7 and October 13- December 14
  • Mississippi River Subzone: September 29 – October 7 and October 13 – December 27
Bag: Daily Bag of two geese.

Note: Wisconsin is entering a 5-year stable season trial period for the regular Canada goose season. The quota system has been eliminated during this time. This means that there will be no early closure in the Exterior Canada goose zone, and hunters will enjoy 85 days of goose hunting with 2 birds per day for the full 85 days. Canada goose harvests in the Exterior zone must still be reported to the 1-800-99 GOOSE line.

  • Horicon Zone:
    • Periods 1 and 2: September 16 – October 26
    • Periods 3 and 4: October 27 – December 16
    Bag: Daily bag of two, six tags per hunter.

  • Collins Zone:
    • Period 1: September 16 – September 30
    • Period 2: October 1 – October 21
    • Period 3: October 22 – November 16
    Bag: Daily bag of two, six tags per hunter

**Shooting hours begin at 9am on Sept 22 and Sept 29

Other Geese

Light geese (Snow, Blue and Ross) and Brant
Dates: Seasons are the same as for the Canada goose zones and subzones.
Bag: Daily Bag Limit, 1 brant and 20 light geese

White-fronted geese
Dates: Same as for Exterior Zone and Collins Zone; Horicon Zone, September 22- December 16
Bag: Daily bag Limit, 1 white-fronted goose.

Other Changes for 2007

Horicon Zone: Hunters may place decoys and shoot at birds that are within the 75 yard Horicon Refuge boundary, provided the hunter is outside this boundary.

Falconry

Ducks - Dates are all the days ducks are open to gun hunting in the respective zones plus Sept. 15 and 16 and January 11 - February 24, 2008.

Geese - Dates are the same as the statewide gun season.
