Hiking at Sandhill

Swamp Buck Hiking Trail

After you've visited the Trumpeter Trail, you may want to take some time to stretch your legs and get a little closer to Sandhill's wild neighbors. Consider walking our Swamp Buck Trail or climbing one of our three observation towers.

Nestled on an oak upland between two marshes is the trail head of Sandhill's Swamp Buck Trail. This trail takes the adventuresome off the beaten path through forests, and over myriad marshes that look much the same as they did following the glacier's retreat 10,000 years ago (don't worry...boardwalks should keep your feet dry!). The trail ends at North Bluff, 3.5 miles from the trail head. The walk out and back takes 2 hours. Or, you may drop off one car at the North Bluff trail parking space and return here in another vehicle so you have a car awaiting you at both ends! Please be aware that this trail can be very buggy during warm, humid weather! A spring or fall experience on the Swamp Buck Trail is beyond description.
