Grassy Lake Wildlife Area

Grassy Lake Wildlife Area is a 380 acre property located in Barron County. Find it by going east of Cumberland on Hwy B for 3 1/4 miles. Turn north on 10th St. and go 1 mile. The property is northeast. The property can also be accessed from 11th Street on the east side. There is a gated trail on each end of the property.

The property consists of rolling oak, aspen, maple forest, and small lakes.

History of Management

The property was established in the 1980’s to protect the many small, connected “chain lakes”, as well as to provide recreational hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Today, Grassy Lake has periodic timber sales to improve forest habitat for game and non-game species. The ruffed grouse society improved the trail system to provide better access for forest management and hunting.
