Holland Wildlife Area is a 536 acre property consisting of bottomland hardwood forest, a small area of cedar forest and open grassland. The grassland has some prairie restoration.

Find Holland Wildlife Area from Brillion by way of Hwy 10. Take Hwy PP to the north. Go 7 miles north until Park Road and then take a right. Go ¾ mile to the property line.

From Green Bay take Hwy 57 south to Hwy 96, go east on 96 to Hwy PP. Turn right onto Hwy PP until Mill Road then turn left approximately ½ mile.

Management

Management Objective

Holland Wildlife Area was first leased as a public hunting ground in 1951. First parcel of land acquired in 1958. Master plan adopted in 1982. Today the property is primarily used for pheasant hunting through the stocking program. Because of its close proximity to the urban areas of Green Bay and Fox Cities it is highly used.

Today, prescribe burning for grasslands is maintained for a variety of wildlife and sustained forest management to yield fiber and optimize habitat for wildlife. A “natural area” has been established to give significance to the “Old growth” bottomland hardwood stand contained within the property.

Recreation

The following recreational opportunities exist at Holland Wildlife Area:

  • Hunting - Pheasant (2 p.m. closure), deer, turkey and cottontail rabbits
  • Trapping - limited to couple small wetlands for wetland furbearers otherwise raccoons and fox.
  • Wildlife Viewing - Limited to time periods with no hunting and associated with the breeding season for grassland birds.
  • Bird watching - Limited to breeding season with few grassland species.
  • Notable Feature - Property has a unique area of wet forest with large “old growth” trees on about 50 acres.
