Watershed Planning FY08-FY09
The Watershed Program is now updating watershed plans throughout the state. The last update was 5 to 7 years ago (Integrated Basin Plans). New tools allow for a faster, continuous electronic watershed planning effort to make information available for various federal, state and local information needs and requirements. Federal Integrated Reporting requirements also provide impetus to update watershed and waterbody assessment data.
Watershed Workplanning Guidance requests that each Watershed Program Supervisor pick 3 watersheds (or the equivalent) per basin per year. The specific locations of which waters or watersheds are picked should focus on water(sheds) with:
- active TMDL waters,
- 303(d) listed waters, or
- waters funded under Tier II special study work during the previous field season (i.e., the data is available).
Staff update information in WATERS following the planning checklist.
This provides:
• Watershed-based planning effort to fulfill 319 funding requirements;
• Background information needed if someone requests information on O/ERW, 303d or TMDL waters;
• Enhanced sharing of knowledge about the resources by experienced people;
• Allocation of specific time for staff to update information on high priority waters/watersheds, such as impaired waters, TMDL sites, O/ERW Sites, or sites where we've spent money on monitoring.
• Fulfillment of "basin planning" requirements articulated in our CWA 205(j) funding.
