Utility Waterway Crossings
Utility Crossing (Plow or Trench Method)Question: I want to cross a waterway with a utility using plow-in or trench methods. Do I need to obtain a permit and/or pay a fee? Answer: Permits or written approvals are required for projects that involve dredging to cross a navigable waterway. A fee is required. General Permits are available for Utility Crossings by plow or trench methods. Review the application materials below to see if your project will qualify. To apply for a Waterway Crossing General Permit, open and print BOTH of the following files:

Utility Crossing (Directional Bore Method)Question: I want to install a utility under a waterway using a directional bore method. Do I need to obtain a permit and/or pay a fee? Answer: Using the Directional Bore Method for installation will normally not require a permit. Best Management Practices for erosion control must also be followed.
