Wisconsin Great Lakes Strategy

In parallel to the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration, the Wisconsin DNR Office of Great Lakes is drafting a Wisconsin Great Lakes Restoration and Protection Strategy. The Strategy will serve as the vehicle for coordinating and allocating resources and will better position Wisconsin to begin program and project implementation in the event that significant funding comes from the US Congress for the restoration of the Great Lakes.

The documents below contain reviews of Great Lakes issues and priorities that were drafted using information from existing plans comments from Department staff, other state and federal agency staff, and from University faculty. Also included are the results of three state workshops held in 2005, which were conducted by Sea Grant, the Great Lakes Commission, the Council of Great Lakes Governors, and Wisconsin’s DNR and Coastal Management Program.

Once the Wisconsin Great Lakes Restoration and Protection Strategy is finalized, it will then be used to help guide restoration and protection efforts in the Wisconsin portion of the Great Lakes Basin. Following the release of the Strategy, we will design and implement a process to revise it in future years.
