Tools and Tips for Watershed Planning in Wisconsin

The full-day workshop from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. is scheduled for the following dates and locations:

Wednesday, September 19 - WITC Rice Lake
Tuesday, September 25 - Fox Valley Technical College, Oshkosh
Friday, September 28 - Herzing College, Madison

This workshop is for WDNR staff, UWEX Basin Educators, County Land & Conservation Planners, regional planners, county and town administrators, non-profit groups, lake and planning grant recipients, and others who are involved in water quality planning, research, or restoration work. Participants will receive hands-on computer training on how to use the Department's various databases and web site information to find information you need to develop watershed and lake plans. Topic: Introduction, Overview
What: Workshop Purpose, Logistics, Review of Agenda, Introduction to Watershed Planning Network concept
Materials: Agenda, Pamphlet
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Topic: Watershed Planning Overview
What: What is WDNR's new planning approach? What tools do we have to support this? What is our plan?
Materials: Planning Website, handout on data in WATERS
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

BREAK 10:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

Topic: Surface Water Data Viewer (SWDV)
What: Go over key data, new data layers, etc., using the viewer and related systems for planning
How to access/download or request additional GIS data from DNR's website, highlight land use planning sites
Materials: SWDV web site, Tip Sheets on SWDV, List of Datasets on viewer, List of GIS/Webmapping sites
Time: 10:45 a.m. - noon

LUNCH noon - 1 p.m.

Topic: SWIMS and Oracle Discoverer: Finding and downloading data
What: Go over key data, monitoring data, downloading data, reports, ROIs, actions, etc. new data layers, etc…
Review and get feedback on the Grant Reporting Closeout Screens

Time: 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

BREAK 2:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Topic: Dynamic Webpages
What: Describe the "big picture" plan with chart of databases and how they will feed the site
