Nitrogen Removal Systems

for Large POWTS

All large Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (POWTS) must employ a treatment technology that will sufficiently remove nitrogen in order to ensure compliance with the state groundwater standard of 10 milligrams per liter for nitrate-nitrogen.

The following link provides a list of currently acceptable nitrogen removal systems or designs and describes how DNR will evaluate other proposed systems or designs.
