2008 List, Comments, and ResponseThe Impaired Waters List is submitted every two years to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) as required under Section 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act. This 2008 Impaired Waters List identifies surface waters that do not meet water quality standards expressed in Chapters NR 102-105 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code.
Water quality biologists check stream characteristics on impaired streams. On February 19, 2008, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) announced the availability of its draft "Impaired Waters List" and invited public comment. WDNR solicited input from over 30 groups [Word] which collect or have access to data for Wisconsin waters. In addition, WDNR staff compiled available and representative data from partners and recent monitoring efforts conducted by WDNR to make the recommendations for the 2008 list. Comments were received from 16 entities and/or individuals (see below). This response and other documents were submitted to USEPA August 1st, 2008. Once USEPA staff review this and associated documents and lists, additional changes may be made to ensure compliance with federal requirements.Any questions or concerns regarding this information should be directed to:
